What’s burning? #12

Trellion

With heaps of new fires starting and that Spring sun trying it’s best to brighten us up I felt inspired to drop another What’s Burning. Mainly taken from larger projects this one is somewhat of a household name affair, well, if your house is buried beneath the mainstream overground.

Almost undeservedly, we have another offer from Mr T Slang Officer himself, Trellion. Referring to calls from fans and artists alike for his reappearance, Trell reassures us all that he can actually never pass on ‘The Man Who Couldn’t Die’, a full-depth dive back beneath the shores of Lunarville. ‘Fresh Paint’ sets the stall out for a wondrous project reminiscent of the classic ‘Lighthouse Tape’.

Not sure I ever recovered from the madness of ‘Die Living’ put together by Jack Danz and Skott 3ree, but before I could even try, I was blessed with the sequel. Just over three years since the pair’s last huge project, ‘Die Living 2’ is another batch of Danz’ rolling soundscapes, one of which and my pick, ‘Sunny When It Thunders’ ventures into what I’ve coined swing-rap.

Recent events got me thinking we live in a firework factory these days. Kemastry draws the comparison too and provides a nice soundtrack for watching the world melt away. Social awareness with a splash of nihilism, Kema always calls it how he sees it, and for now, it’s feeling a bit ‘All Breaks No Gas’, but as per, there are life lessons between each gear change.

An unfair combo in the studio now; Brum’s finest Sonnyjim links up with Sheffield’s stalwart more-than-just-producer Morriarchi on ‘Golden Parachute’. It’s just too easy; the pace is like a round of golf, or a day spent casting lines in the sun- time moves slower when Sonny is on the mic. ‘A Bit Of Magic’ made me feel the warmest, maybe in part thanks to CAPRIISUN’s appearance.

Thought I’d round off with a new fire after some heavy-hitters, all about balance. 32Burden has crept onto my radar with a bunch of recent EP’s and singles the most notable for me being ‘Ahhh’. It’s pretty impossible not to spin it back again and again, and with a whole host of new music on the horizon you gotta become acquainted with his heat.
