Soft
Accepting is the most difficult part when processing. Especially when it relates to deeply personal themes such as sexual orientation. Because, rather than the others, sometimes the greatest obstacle is our mind. And ettie knows this feeling well. Imagine a party where, at a certain point, our glance is magnetically caught by somebody; we pause, we stare, and we admire. Not knowing well what, but we just stay there noticing every detail of them. It looks like the beginning of a romantic movie of the ’90, yet there is something different: it is somebody of our same sex. And, because of this, we pretend to look at them not with love but with curiosity. But if there is something that goes beyond logic is loving, no matter what and no matter who. As ettie sings in her latest release, “Soft”: “I can keep finding excuses for the heaviest of truths, but It's just all so soft”. When we acknowledge love, everything becomes soft, and we feel like floating somewhere where others’ opinions and our mental paradigms cannot bother us anymore. In a contemporaneity where loving somebody has never ever been freer than now, it is important to remember the controversies that still can stem from ourselves. Yet, besides paranoia and doubts, authentic artists such as ettie are gems that remind us how love can make everything softer and make our existence a little bit lighter.
